Case Study #4 P&ID of a Whisky Brewery

Let’s draw a P&ID for a basic unit:

• We’ll make a P&ID for a Distillation Unit, which, as you may know, is more complex:
  • Distillation (Tray Column)
  • Feed/Recycle Streams
  • Reboiler
  • Condenser
  • Temperature, Pressure, Level Control

Strategy:

• Understand the process, and what we need to draw (and not)
• Get started with Margin and limits
• Unit & Equipment:
  • Trayed Column
  • Secondary units (reboiler, condenser, vessels, pumps, etc.)
  • Streams (product, byproduct, utilities, etc.)
• Instrumentation (ignore for now)
  • Instrument
  • Control 
• Review
