CRE II - Isothermal Rector Design
Design and Operation of Isothermal Reactors. Molar Balances, Conversion & Sizing
Course Description
This program offers a comprehensive exploration of various reactor types and their design principles.
Students delve into:
- Batch Reactors, analyzing both first and second-order reactions,
- Gain insight into Continuous Stirred-Tank Reactors (CSTRs), emphasizing the significance of the Dahmkohler number and space time considerations.
- Analysis of the Plug Flow Reactors (PFR) , examining their application in first and second-order reactions across liquid and gas phases while addressing pressure loss effects.
- Furthermore, Packed Bed Reactors (BPR) are explored in depth, encompassing first and second-order reactions alongside catalyst bed considerations and pressure drop calculations utilizing the Ergun equation.
Through this course, students develop a nuanced understanding of isothermal reactor design, enabling them to make informed decisions in reactor selection and optimization for various chemical processes.
